Tonight brings a close to the two years that I
have been President of the Whyalla Mt Laura
Lions.
It has been an enjoyable couple of years and I
thank you for not only the opportunity to serve
you as President but also for the support that
has been extended to me during that time.
The past twelve months have again been a busy
time, we have raised a total of $44612.00, this
equates to a total of 2465 hrs that have been
spent in the Whyalla Community.
The biggest event of the year is no doubt the
Whyalla Show. Funds raised from the Show are
apportioned to the Whyalla Gift Foundation. This
year we have retained some of the funds to do
some much needed upgrades of the Dutch Shed at
Jubilee Park.
We have spent $20583.00 in the Whyalla Community
this year. Our major donation was $5000.00 to
Ronald McDonald House in Adelaide. This is the
first payment of a two year agreement to support
the complete upgrade of a room at Ronald
McDonald. I think this is a wonderful cause to
support, 16% of the people that stay at Ronald
McDonald House are from this region.
Our Club has 19 active members at present. We
are fortunate that without exception those
members when available are always willing to
pitch in and help where necessary.
We have spoken for some years about increasing
our membership, unfortunately all service clubs
in Whyalla face the same dilemma as we do.
In closing I want
to wish Graeme Lowe all the best in his new
role, thank you for the support.

President Report
Another successful Lions year has finished.
I would like to thank all members for their
support this year, we are an aging club and
finding it tougher to do the fundraising we
used to do.
Once again we have enlisted other clubs to
assist us with a win-win situation (we raise
some money and they do too).
This year we turned over $36482.00 and
donated back $16506.00. One of our major
donation was $5000.00 promised to Ronald
McDonald House to cover refurbishment of a
room at the House. Barry Spry, Tony Treasure
and myself were lucky enough to visit Ronald
McDonald House during the year and see first
hand what a great job they do. They are
quite happy to show any Lions members
around, if you are ever in Adelaide and have
time to spare.
The Whyalla Show this year was another huge
success, we turned over approximately
$14500.00, between the Dutch Shed and Chip
Van, getting numbers is always hard and
thanks to some friends and partners in Lions
we managed to get through.
Our other large income earners were the
After Pageant Fair, Carols in the Park and
of course Australia Day.
I have agreed to stay on as President for
another 12 months and the board has also
agreed to stay and help out, during that
time which is very much appreciated.
I know we say it every year, but we do need
to make a conscious effort to try and gain
some new members.
We have done some extension alterations to
the “Cubby” (thanks to Bryan Carpenter and
others) and this should go a long way to
enticing new members (photo below).
The meetings are a lot less formal and it
provides a comfortable atmosphere.
Hopefully we can make next year bigger and
better.
