PRESIDENT’S REPORT
2006—2007
With my year as
President drawing to a close, I would like to take this time to thank the
members of the Mt Laura Lions Club for making this year yet another
successful year in the history of our club.
I have not been able to
put the time into the job of President that it deserves but even without
that hands on leadership we have been able to achieve some great things.
August 2006 saw the
whole club turn out to help in the Chip Van and Dutch shed at the Whyalla
Show.
In September and
October preparations were well under way for the Convention and thanks to
the efforts of the Convention committee and the members of both the Whyalla
Mt Laura and
Whyalla clubs the 'Back To The Sticks in 2006' District Convention was very
successful with Lions and partners attending from all over the State. The
four wheel drive club and Whyalla High School reunion were also catered for
during this time.
November and December
had the food and wine fair, Christmas decorations to be put in Westland and
Father Christmas, Sleigh and Christmas cakes. The Pageant, Hospital fete,
Netball and Football Grand Final also featured. Relay for Life again proved
popular this year as over 400 hours were put in by our members to raise
$2676.00 towards Cancer research.
Through the clubs
efforts at the BBQ at Bobs Home Hardware we have raised close to $2000,
Thank you to Tony Treasure for taking on the co-ordination of this project.
The Chip and Donut Van
has been busy this year and as always a great fundraiser. In the last few
months it has been used at many events including Carols by Candlelight,
Australia Day Fete, Little Athletics and Monster Trucks. I would like to
welcome the recently inducted members to our club and hope they enjoy their
time in Lions.
This year we have
raised $60,540 and 3392 hours of time committed and donated to various
charities over $23,000 as at the end of May.
Thank you all for your
help and support I have received over the past year and I congratulate
incoming President Graham and wish him and his board of directors all the
best for the coming year.
David Clapp

PRESIDENT’S REPORT
2007—2008
This year has been a
busy one with the van, bbq’s etc.
A few events we
done…..Whyalla show, phone books, Easter weekend, netball, footy, Christmas
decorations, carols, pageant, bob’s bbq and the OneSteel children’s
Christmas show.
The day we cooked for
the college was a big challenge and thanks lion Gary and lady Roni for their
monster cooker.
The social side was a
little down especially with functions at the club shed.
The mixed evenings with
our ladies at youth of the year and the Christmas show with lion’s lady Kath
as our guest turned out to be good events.
It was the first time I
have been involved in the lion’s quest and with 25 teachers being
instructed, and the feedback was very positive.
The blue light has had
regular helpers and with our police checks more of us can help out
especially when we do the Christmas evening with so many children around.
I went to the launch of
the proposed Food Bank being set up in Whyalla to service the Eyre peninsula
and surrounds, they have a big job ahead of them looking after the needy.
The new members I hope
you have settled in and enjoy many years of lion’s.
This year was made easy
thanks to lady Lyn for the bulletin, lion Wayne for his secretarial work and
taking charge of the club project at the aged care village which is nearly
complete, lion Geoff for looking after the money, lion Brian for the YotY
and membership etc, lion Daryl for the van/lion’s mints and lion Tony for
running the Bob’s bbq and sourcing the right type of snags and burgers and
too every lion in assisting at the functions.
Congratulations to lion
Jim and lady Aileen for taking on the DG role and doing a good job and lion
Don for his award at the national convention, he also done a little bit of
cab secretary work which did take up some of his time.
The president
appreciation awards are a bit different and I hope you keep them for many
years.
Lion Len and his board
will take us into the next lion year and with our support they will keep
supporting the community.
Finally I would like to
thank lion’s lady Robyn for putting up with me this year with lion’s duties
and regular stints of night shifts.
